DeFi Giant Uniswap Taps 7 Rival Liquidity Sources to Burn UNI Tokens
The decentralized exchange (DEX) platform Uniswap has turned DEX competitors into potential revenue sources for its UNI token-burning mechanism. Launched Thursday, Aggregator Hooks connect seven external liquidity sources covering more than 90% of decentralized exchange activity across Ethereum, Base, and Robinhood Chain. The upgrade allows Uniswap to collect protocol fees from trades routed through outside liquidity pools, contributing to UNI burns.

Key Takeaways
- The DEX giant Uniswap launched Aggregator Hooks on Oct. 22, connecting seven external liquidity sources across three chains.
- Uniswap v4 collects protocol fees from trades routed through competing exchanges, contributing to UNI burns.
- Uniswap’s expansion builds on its 2025 UNIfication initiative, which included a 100 million UNI treasury burn.
Uniswap Turns Rival Exchange Liquidity Into Fuel for UNI Burns
DeFi’s top DEX protocol by volume, Uniswap, has figured out how to collect fees from trades routed through competing DEX platforms, with the proceeds contributing to UNI token burns. On Oct. 22, 2026, the protocol launched Aggregator Hooks, connecting seven external liquidity sources directly to Uniswap v4.
The integration spans Ethereum mainnet and the Layer 2 networks Base and Robinhood Chain, covering more than 90% of decentralized exchange activity across those networks. Even when another platform supplies the liquidity, Uniswap can collect protocol fees, effectively turning rival trading activity into another source of UNI burn revenue.
Uniswap Opens Its Trading Engine to Rival Exchanges
“Uniswap v4 is now an aggregator,” Uniswap Labs announced Thursday, introducing a system that makes outside liquidity appear as native v4 pools. The company explained that its exchange has processed more than $4.5 trillion in cumulative swaps, but liquidity continues forming elsewhere. “Aggregator Hooks bring it in, benefiting the protocol,” Uniswap Labs further stated.
The technology automatically compares prices across Uniswap and connected exchanges, including Curve, Fluid, Pancakeswap V3, and Slipstream. Quotes refresh every block, with trades settling in a single transaction. “The whole route settles in a single transaction, with nothing new to approve,” the company explained.
Outside Trading Volume Feeds UNI Token Burns
The financial arrangement builds on Uniswap’s UNIfication initiative, approved in December 2025, which activated protocol fees and directed collected revenue toward UNI burns. Under the mechanism, fees accumulate in TokenJar contracts, while the Firepit system requires UNI destruction before those assets can be withdrawn. The initiative also authorized a one-time treasury burn of 100 million UNI.
Uniswap Labs confirmed the connection, stating, “Outside sources become v4 pools, and swaps routed through them pay protocol fees, contributing to UNI burn.” The feature is already active through Uniswap’s Web App and API, with additional networks and liquidity sources planned.
For competing DEX protocols, the arrangement presents an interesting trade-off: More potential trading volume from Uniswap users, but protocol fees flowing toward a rival’s token-burning machinery.
