SNARKs and Quantum-Proof Signatures
To mitigate the risks, the Post-Quantum team is integrating Zero-Knowledge Succinct Non-Interactive Argument of Knowledge (SNARK) technology. This approach aims to prevent the performance issues that can arise from more computationally intensive quantum-proof signatures, which can increase bandwidth and storage requirements. ‘Choosing a post-quantum algorithm is only part of the challenge,’ the team stated. ‘The harder parts include safely upgrading hundreds of millions of accounts, preventing the migration from introducing new bugs, avoiding new attack surfaces, maintaining performance, and coordinating ecosystem-wide adoption.’
Protecting Ethereum Wallets
The team’s primary focus will be on securing standard Ethereum wallets, which hold the largest pool of value, followed by high-value operational wallets tied to crypto exchanges, bridges, and custody solutions. Ensuring the seamless deployment of these solutions without disrupting the network is a critical challenge.
